Environmental Health Technician – Animal Control Officer

The City of St. Cloud is accepting applications for the position of Environmental Health Technician. There is currently one vacancy in the Health and Inspections Department – Animal Control Division.

 Work within the Animal Control Division includes:

  • Enforcement of appropriate City Ordinances regarding animals
  • Impoundment of strays
  • Bite investigations
  • Frequent use of enforcement actions to obtain compliance with related codes under the supervision of the Assistant Health Director and Health Director
  • May also be assigned to Housing and Code Enforcement Division to include: inspecting rental properties ensuring compliance with property maintenance code; enforcement of nuisance and zoning ordinances; and other related duties.

Position Requirements: 


Bachelor’s degree OR associate degree plus 4 years related work experience; must possess valid class D Minnesota driver’s license; must have basic computer skills and must provide reliable transportation to perform all described duties and responsibilities. The Animal Control Division provides a city owned vehicle for most animal control duties.

Special Requirements

Desirable Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in related field (public health, environmental health, life sciences, urban planning, etc.); inspection experience; knowledge of municipal housing code enforcement; knowledge of zoning and nuisance ordinances and methods and procedures by which they are administered and enforced; knowledge of the principles and practices of public health sanitation; knowledge of building construction and remodeling methods and practices; International Code Council Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification; and knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
