Job Summary
 

This position will coordinate the enforcement of state food laws.  This position primarily investigates, evaluates and conducts compliance actions for the enforcement of state and federal law and rules adopted by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture in order to promote uniform and effective compliance with applicable laws and rules within the state.  This position provides consultation to consumers on state food laws and regulations.  This position provides support to food inspection staff by answering questions and providing guidance on enforcement options and other questions.  This position also support FFSD’s enoforcement mission by collaborating with outside agencies and entities to carry our FFSD’s compliance and regulatory mission.

Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, animal or food science, environmental health or closely related degree PLUS eighteen (18) months of professional experience conducting regulatory work in retail food, dairy, or meat facilities (i.e., inspection or production experience, labeling, plan review, sampling).  NOTE:  A Master’s degree in biological, physical, animal or food science or environmental health may substitute for one (1) year of required experience.
  • Must currently possess, or obtain within 18 months of hire, and maintain a Minnesota certification as a Registered Sanitarian (RS).
  • Must currently possess and maintain an active/valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) or more years of professional level experience interpreting, explaining or administering Federal Rules and Minnesota Statutes for food and/or feed handling and production.
  • A Master’s degree in biological, physical, animal or food science or environmental health, food law, jurrsprudence, regulatory affairs or other advanced degree such as MPH.
  • Experience in legal proceedings, judicial processes and court filings.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.

Physical Requirements

·         Ability to maintain stationary position for extended periods, ascend/descend ladders and steps, transport up to 40lbs, traverse slippery/uneven surfaces during all types of weather conditions, accurate color vision to determine shade of product color to make appropriate product acceptability determinations, communicate effectively with supervisors and workers in both office and field workplace locations that may be noisy environments, detect product abnormalities through sense of smell.
