This year’s recipient of the Mary Lauren Olson Memorial Scholarship is Puleng Moshele.
Puleng earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Macalster college. In the fall of 2018, she began graduate school at the University of MN School of Public Health and is now a 1st year PHD student in the Industrial Hygiene Program, in the department of Environmental Health Sciences, at the University of Minnesota.
Puleng is interested in the field of industrial hygiene and is currently contributing to the field by developing of mathematical modeling frameworks for occupational exposures in underserved worker populations. Her focus is to provide models that integrate the capacity and local infrastructure to manage and improve health conditions in their workplace
Puleng was highly recommended for this scholarship by Dr. Peter Raynor, an industrial hygiene professor at the U of M who described her as “a creative and independent research assistant” and that she “helps to build community among the students in the industrial hygiene program”. Additionally, she has an amazing GPA and was recently inducted into Delta Omega, the Public Health honorary society.
Puleng is and will continue to be a leader in the field of Environmental Health. The Mary Lauren Olson Scholarship is well deserved.
