City of Brooklyn Park is seeking qualified candidates. To fill the position of Property Maintenance Inspector – Rental & Business Licensing

Position Description: 

The primary responsibility of this position is to inspect licensed rental property to ensure that city ordinances, state codes, and other regulations related to property maintenance, building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, public health, zoning, and public nuisances are being met.  This is to be accomplished through routine and complaint inspections on all single family and multi-family rental properties in the city.  Community engagement and relationship building with tenants, landlords, neighbors, community leaders and others are key components to this position.

Pending proper education and certifications, this position may be cross trained with other inspection staff within the department including building inspections, code enforcement, and public/environmental health to provide professional development opportunities

Position Requirements: 

  • Associate’s Degree in Building Information Technology or a combination of education and work experience in the construction field
  • Building Inspection Certificate or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Three years’ experience as a property maintenance inspector, housing inspector, building inspector or equivalent in a related field
  • ICC/AACE Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within one year of employment
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Previous experience with a housing inspection program, private home inspection program, property maintenance inspection program, or other accredited education and certification programs
  • Knowledge of city codes and ordinances, state statutes and federal regulations related to property maintenance
  • Ability to handle difficult situation and difficult customers in a tactful and professional manner
  • Ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience, and understanding in the course of work duties
  • Ability to relate to and work with individuals representing a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction
  • Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Package and various databases
